A Tidal Lagoon Encased by Mountain Walls
Saksun is a remote hamlet located on the northwestern coast of Streymoy Island. Until a massive storm blocked the fjord mouth with sand in the 1600s, Saksun had a deep natural harbor. Today, it forms an ethereal circular sea lagoon reachable only on foot during low tide.
The iconic 1860 turf-roofed church and Dúvugarðar farmstead overlook the water, framed by roaring mountain waterfalls that drop straight down basalt cliffs into the tide pool.
